Case Study: Laboratory Animal Supplier

Typical Lab Animal Rearing / Bio-safty Enviroment
Project: Eliminate Spore Forming Pathogen from a Large Lab Animal Rearing Facility
The Solution: Facility Decontamination with ClO2 Gas
Background

A leading supplier of research animals ceased normal operations at one of its facilities due to the presence of persistent biological contamination. Although facility management explored a number commercially available decontamination technologies, the spore forming organisms were very resilient and efforts to eliminate the contamination were unsuccessful. Prior to Sabre’s involvement the company was considering demolishing and rebuilding the facility as its only remaining option.

Following a review of the facility Sabre proposed its chlorine dioxide gas Facility Decontamination solution. Sabre first conducted a number of advanced sterilization tests with chlorine dioxide gas to determine the appropriate fumigation treatment level and to confirm the efficacy of the treatment on the organism. Sabre then successfully treated the 40,000 sf2 facility with chlorine dioxide gas. The project duration was one week and the actual treatment was completed in less than a day. The facility was able to resume normal operations in less than one week following the successful treatment.
